Arles 2021 : Experience photogrametry with Dimitri Daniloff through an exhibition and a workshop
Dimitri Daniloff will present his photogrametry work during Les rencontres d'Arles 2021 at the exhibition "Incarnations". In addition, he will set up a photogrametry studio.
With new image creative technologies such as photogrammetry and LiDAR scanning, the photographic image becomes volume, space, experience. The "Incarnations" exhibition brings these new image-worlds to view, presenting the work of a generation of artists who, with photographic means, fabricate virtual ecologies, avatars-portraits, hybrid bodies, embodied stories. A journey of experiences in the form of immersive, fun and accessible installations to which the entire public of the Rencontres d´Arles is invited. The festival is organizing workshops for children and the fourth edition of the virtual reality writing residency which will welcome artists and experts in Arles from August 21 to 28.
For the "Incarnations" exhibition at the Rencontres d'Arles 2021, the artist photographer Dimitri Daniloff is setting up a photogrammetry studio to create your “embodied portrait”. By participating in the photographic model game, you will be able to experience the main stages of the photogrammetry technique.
First, there are many photographic shots that document all the possible angles of your portrait. These images are then transmitted to the photogrammetric modeling software. By comparing images and detecting identical points between different angles of view of the same scene, the software calculates the position of each point of the image in space, creating a three-dimensional photographic model.
In the final step, you choose your preferred point of view and the desired rendering between clay, polygon mesh, and point cloud, thus reproducing the “virtual studio” practice familiar to photographers at the Incarnations exhibition.
By entering an email address, you can receive your portrait and post it on your #IncarnationsArles social networks.
